TheNewSort: LOOP makes a difference for Startup

TheNewSort creates digital solutions that enable citizens to sort waste in the best possible way, focusing on improving recycling rates. In April, they will be with Clean at the LOOP Forum for the third year in a row, where they will showcase their latest solutions to visitors.

TheNewSort has just created an app to register items for direct recycling. The solution is innovative and intuitive to use. Therefore, co-founder Claus Holmen is looking forward to showcasing it alongside other new solutions at this year’s circular economy fair:

We are excited about LOOP. It has given us great contacts – even a contact that has resulted in a brand-new product we’ve just launched that we wouldn’t have come up with otherwise. In this way, LOOP has made a difference for us as a startup – no doubt about it.

The new solution was created in collaboration with ARGO in Roskilde, where you, as a representative of – initially – a humanitarian organization and later as a private citizen, can take a picture of an item at the recycling center to take home. By registering the item in the right category, ARGO can better calculate its recycling rate and CO2 savings.

We plan to introduce new initiatives in the app that stimulate recycling and allow all municipalities and waste companies to participate – Claus Holmen

The idea is that we as consumers should improve at recycling rather than throwing away. This is an essential element in increasing our circular economy, which is currently at 4%.

Improved sorting guide leads to more recycling

In addition to showcasing the app at LOOP, Claus Holmen will also showcase a new sorting guide that he and his team have been working on. The sorting guide merges four guides and simplifies and standardizes the text and instructions so that citizens can better understand how to sort materials.

Over time, we want this guide to focus more on recycling so that disposal becomes less attractive. We will launch the guide at Renosyd soon and then at other municipalities – Claus Holmen

The right actors in the right place

Claus Holmen and TheNewSort team are looking forward to April 24, when LOOP opens its doors for the third year in a row. LOOP Forum is an annual fair where actors within circular economy, waste and resources meet for two days of inspiration and debate to realize the green transition.

Since the beginning, Clean has given startups and members the opportunity to attend LOOP for free. TheNewSort has been there every year for a particular reason:

Other fairs are primarily for private individuals. LOOP brings together those who can make the decisions: politicians, opinion makers, and companies. They all come to LOOP. We really want to meet people and get input, and that’s why we go to LOOP because that’s where it all happens – Claus Holmen

Clean’s activities and exhibition area at LOOP Forum are co-funded by The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science, The Danish Board of Business Development and The European Union.
